Basic Motorcycle Class (BC)

This course is designed for individuals with little or no riding experience. As the title suggests, this class teaches the basic techniques of riding a motorcycle. The course consists of 6 hours of classroom theory and 12 hours of practical application (riding). Students will ride small (100-350cc) training motorcycles provided by SC Rider Education. Students must pass both a written and riding assessment to receive a completion certificate. All others will receive a certificate of attendance. Motorcycling requires physical and mental skills that people learn at different rates. Therefore, our measure of success in this course is that you have a good learning experience while having fun. This course meets the standards set by SC law for an insurance discount. This course is not an alternate to the driver education requirement for under 18 year-old drivers.

Successful completion of the Basic Motorcycle Class qualifies you for a waiver on the SCDMV motorcycle license test.

Prerequisite:

  • Must be eligible for a motorcycle driver's license (minimum age: 15)
  • Must be able to ride a bicycle

Benefits:

  • Motorcycles are provided for students to ride during the course
  • Students who successfully complete the course are eligible for an insurance discount
